PantherDining Bringing Three New Branded Concepts to the Student Center
The noise of construction in The Courtyard may be too distracting for students who want to study. The sound of drilling and hammering in the food court located on the first floor of Student Center East is a good thing, though.
Before you know it, the construction will be complete, the noise will dissipate, and students, faculty and staff will have a new place to dine on campus—Panda Express. The fast-casual Chinese restaurant, which is one of three new branded concepts expected to open this semester, offers American Chinese cuisine favorites such as orange chicken, as well as Wok Smart dishes for the health-conscious.
Panda Express will be open in The Courtyard, located on the first floor of Student Center East as early as mid – February. The starting operating hours will be 10:30 a.m. – 7 p.m. Monday – Thursday and Fridays from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The menu will be a full Panda Express menu allowing for combos and a variety of all kinds.
In addition to Panda Express, PantherDining will start serving Jittery Joe’s coffee in The Courtyard. PantherDining started selling the Athens, Ga.-based brand last semester at Centennial Café, located in Centennial Hall, as well as Legal Grounds and Miss Demeanor’s Café, located in the College of Law. This will increase the coffee selection in Student Center East greatly, adding lattes, espresso and cappuccino to list a few. With the addition of the coffee selections, the variety of baked pastries is expected to increase as well.
PantherDining is also opening a Steak ‘n Shake in Panther’s Club, the food court located on the third floor of Student Center West, across from the Georgia State University Bookstore. The decision to bring Steak ‘n Shake, known for its steakburgers and hand-dipped milkshakes, to campus was based on the results of a survey administered to students last semester. The Steak ‘n Shake will be one of just 40 Steak ‘n Shakes on university campuses nationwide and the first Steak n’ Shake on a university campus in Georgia. The menu will have some limitations compared to the freestanding operations but fear not, the Frisco Burger and the extensive variety of hand-dipped ice cream milkshakes will be on the menu. PantherDining is scheduled to have Steak n Shake open mid – March and it will be operating Monday – Friday from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Archana Iyer, Student Center Advisory Council Chair and SGA College of Arts & Sciences Graduate Senator, says, “I’m glad there are more options for dining on-campus with the new additions. Grad students especially, always love more options for coffee.”
Unlike, Panda Express, which will be independently-operated, Steak ‘n Shake will be operated by PantherDining employees, much like Chick-fil-A, with most of the employees being students. PantherDining, which employees over 200 students every year, strives to enrich the lives of Georgia State students by giving them the opportunity to learn career and leadership skills before entering the workforce upon graduation.
