Event Management Extends Office Hours
The Student Center Event Management office has extended its hours until 8:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays to enhance its customer service. The office, located in Student Center East, Room 305, coordinates reservations for indoor and outdoor venues and marketing display areas at the Student Center. The Event Management office began closing later two days per week at the start of the fall 2015 semester. A student staff member provides customer assistance after the normal closing time of 5:15 p.m.
Jeannie Cho, event planning manager, noted,
“Many of our clients are students, and they may have class; they’re not always here right at 5:15 when we would normally close. We chose Tuesdays and Thursdays because that’s when we generally have more evening events.”
Event Management staff wanted to enhance service for clients who need to stop in and ask questions and to provide more immediate assistance for clients who have events during those evenings. Cho said the office has received very positive feedback from students and building staff regarding the extended hours.
“We have heard from the clients who do meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays, as well as other building staff, that they do appreciate that our office is open to address client concerns and to provide better customer service as far as greeting our clients. And, if any of the other building staff needed help, it’s nice to know that there’s at least one other person here.”

She noted that the office may also stay open late on additional days if special or large events warrant doing so.
Cho said Event Management takes pride in ensuring that students and other clients receive the best possible customer service and training. The staff is currently creating a how-to video for the Virtual Event Management System, the Student Center’s new online reservation system. The office also offers periodic food safety training.
